I don't think this is the right icon, but I didn't want to use Batman.

The article [ profile] beeweecatcher posted on her last journal got me right in the feels. And compelled me to write.

I first want to gripe about how you can't go back more than 2 weeks on your friend's feed without paying some kind of money. Which, honestly, I might do on a rainy day just because I know I can read about you guys for hours.

I've been terrible at this thing for the last few years. It's not that I don't have complete thoughts, I just... honestly, I don't know. I'm really sucked up into that which is Twitter, keeping thoughts consise and to 140 characters or less. But about a year and a half ago, I created another twitter account, one that's locked. It's my vent/word vomit account, mostly where I go to bitch or have a strange stream of consciousness. I realized today, after reading that article, that that is my LiveJournal. It doesn't have the audience this one used to, but it's cozy, and I can speak freely without much question (or acusation, which is what I was more worried about). If any of you guys do Twitter and want it, let me know.

Ending this like so many other posts... hoping that I'll write more

Been meaning to write about this, sorry!

Our flight out was more or less uneventful, except there were screaming babies, 4 of them. I managed to get some sleep but my traveling companions (Pawnce and Cosieko) didn’t, they kept themselves entertained with movies and whatnot. Flight wasn't that long, roughly 2 hours which is similar to going to Chicago. Got shuttled to the rental car lot, got our vehicle, which was a very nice Chevy Equinox (I’m not a GM person, but I would have one of those) and immediately went to Kroger because they close at 1am, got mixers then grabbed Taco Bueno (which I’ve never had before, but was tasty) and went to the hotel.

A friend had moved his room at the main hotel to me earlier in the week, but when I went to check in they couldn’t find me. They found the room but it wasn’t in our name. After trying to get a hold of my friend and being unable I called the front desk and asked for reservations, which transfers you to the 1-800 number, I explained to them what was going on and passed my phone to the front desk agent. Everything was taken care of, thankfully, so we headed up to our room. Proceeded to drop our stuff then go see Sparky, Genwyn and Sari in their room as they had done a liquor store run earlier in the day and had picked up some for us. We spent the rest of that evening socializing with them :)

Saturday was spent exploring the con and trying to catch up with people I haven’t met or wanted to spend more time with. We had a good time and the con was laid out nicely. We went to dinner at The Flying Saucer and I got in Random for a little bit before meeting up with Malaika and talking with her, Street and Theolonius the rest of the evening.

That was basically our only day at the con X) Sunday while we were at (very late) breakfast we were checking the weather and came to the conclusion we should probably drive back to Atlanta. Dallas was under a winter storm warning and we were the last flight on Southwest out of Love Field that evening, and we all had to work the next day. So we swapped rental cars because they wouldn’t let me keep the Equinox and drove back to Atlanta. After dropping the rental off and driving home from the airport (where my car was parked) I think we went to bed at 5am. I don’t think anyone went to work that next day @.@

Overall, great con! I’d love to spend more time there, hopefully next year :) I was surprised to hear they were only 50 people shy of tying FWA for attendance, it totally didn’t seem like that many people!
Something I saw in Artist’s Alley that bothered me… )

My 30th birthday was last month, on the 20th, and I had been talking for a while (at least a year, if not more) about going to Las Vegas with friends and have a really excellent time. I attempted to try and plan it, and even getting discounts on hotels through work my key people just didn’t think they were going to make it. I was disappointed but came up with other ideas that would probably suffice.

Other ideas were going home to Michigan to ski or going to Chicago. The latter seemed like a better idea at the time and I let everyone know that was what I had decided I was doing. Then between the cost of flights at the time and people also seeming like they weren’t going to make that either, I canned the trip.

At this point I was getting frustrated, mostly with myself. I wanted to do something special for my milestone birthday when I’m usually so ‘whatever’ during birthdays, lately I had been going bowling or did trivia night at a bar, nothing special. Since Pawnce and I had talked about it previously as a weekend getaway, I decided to look into cabin rentals in northern Georgia. From there I got a head count of who was coming and booked one that was pet friendly and had a hot tub (and pool table, but that wasn’t a requirement). Everyone seemed to have a great time and it’s something we’d all like to do again for longer than 2 days :)

Figured I’d get this typed up while getting back into the swing of things at work.

Headed back to Michigan for holiday this year. We left on the 24th and made it in around 7pm, just in time for Chanukah dinner. We saw snow, big flakes, when we stopped in Charlotte, MI for gas but it had turned to rain by the time we got into Grand Rapids, and that would be the only snow we saw for the time. Pretty bummed out about that, I think that’s only my 3rd or 4th non-white Christmas in Michigan.

We stayed with my Dad and relaxed/lazed around for most of the trip. Saw one of my brothers on the 26th with his wife and my nephew and did a bunch of running around on Saturday. We went to the public museum, which I hadn’t been too since middle school, I think, and I got to show [ profile] corazon_de_leon around the city a bit. We went and saw my cousin, Shanon, who has been battling breast cancer for 2 years, it metastasized in her lungs recently and got a round of chemo, which works really well, but caused her lungs to collapse so she’s recovering from that. Her spirits are good, and she’s looking forward to being able to go home soonish (at the time she’d been in the hospital 43 days). That night we went with my Dad to a Griffin’s hockey game, which was awesome since they won, by a lot. Wandered over to Grand Rapids Brewing Co. after and had a few beers and a nibble, all of which was very tasty. Managed to drag them to Stella’s for whiskey and old arcade games before heading home.

We left on Monday to get back to Atlanta, as I had to be at work for Tuesday and Wednesday. We went out Wednesday night to a small party at a friend’s house, which was very enjoyable. Got to see and socialize with friends we haven’t seen lately due to busy schedules on everyone’s part. Spent the rest of my 4 day weekend doing very little and being unmotivated. I wish I had used my time more wisely, but, meh, it was good to relax.

Not looking for asspats, just want to word vomit about this ridiculously crappy/very off day I’m having.

This morning as I was leaving to go take Bishop to day care/grooming and Leon to the vet for boarding I noticed my check engine light would not go off, having had my truck serviced this past Saturday I was hopeful it was because of something that Ford had done (or not done). After dropping Leon off I called and they told me to bring it in as soon as I could, it was still early in the morning but I got there among a slew of other cars, called [ profile] corazon_de_leon and got dropped off at work. Ford said it would take a few hours to get to.
I got called back around 9.30 saying my truck was done, there was a bit of himming and hawing about whether I had put gas in it after it’d been serviced (which I had not) because the fuel flap (my truck is capless) was stuck and they had to clean it and the fuel line/do some other work. This is normally something they would charge for, but I immediately spoke up and said “Didn’t you guys add a fuel additive when I had service done?” the guy on the line was like.. well, yeah, I’ll talk to the technician about it, this service is on the house. I’m glad this issue didn’t cost me anything other than time, but don’t talk to me like you’re doing ME a favor when it’s your tech that fucked up in the first place.

Work has been dead for the last week, but naturally the day before I’m supposed to go out of town I get slammed. Everything seems to be ruffling my feathers too, I don’t normally mind helping people, but this is one of those ‘do it your damn self’ kind of days.

Disagreeing/fighting/having issues with Pawnce about dinner, also not helping. It’s minor, I know, but when you’re about to go on a road trip, having spicy food that has been disagreeing with your digestive system is not a good idea. I appreciate asking if I have other ideas, but when my ideas also make you think ‘that’s going to cause stomach problems later’ I just want to quit. Are there leftovers? Yes. Are there leftovers enough for both of us? No. Just one more thing I have to worry about on top of packing and getting the car ready tonight.

All of this on top of losing my wallet on Saturday after dropping off my truck for service and cancelling my cards and buying a new license. Thankfully, someone found it and called me (but didn't give it to the service guys at Ford, WTF?) and I got my debit card reactivated and have an ID. But that ate up my entire Saturday.

I wish hiding in a hole was an option.

So much easier to keep up with all things LJ if work didn’t strip the CSS/Java out of the site.

Anyway, time for some updates.

Not dead! Just, utilizing other social media. Twitter (@Mahrkale) mostly, I will occasionally post on Facebook and jab at Google+ once in a while.

After talking with [ profile] traxer on Twitter I decided to poke my head in, see who was still around and what communities were still active. I do sometimes miss throwing something on the internet that isn't 140 characters, so we'll see if I gradually make my way back here and check it more frequently, maybe give a life update :)

I hope you guys have all been well!
mahrkale: (Doy/Confused)
O...kay. I still read my F-list frequently. Not daily anymore, but more M-F while at work.

I know what’s going on with most of you, I’m sorry I don’t comment much =/

Alright, so, let’s pick up where my last life-type update left off:

Also, my birthday is this Sunday.

Currently getting over a cold, boo.

Marrow and Teej left on Monday after spending an extended weekend down here. We did our usual darts and bowling and they saw his family and did some drum corp thing as well. Always nice to have them around :) Marrow gave me her extra sewing machine (minus a part that she's going to mail) so I'm excited to make things with it. I'm looking at mostly dog things right now, since beds and junk and so expensive and I always run the risk of him eating something if I leave him with it for an extended period of time. Also looking at making a steering wheel cover... don't ask.

Hopefully be fully recovered by Saturday as I believe we're still having dinner at Taeray's house. Other than that I have nothing planned for the entire month of August, which I have a feeling is going to get a little boring, but I should get a lot done.

Flight leaves early Friday, the 31st and I'll return sometime on Saturday, the 8th with my Mom. Looking forward to spending a week in Michigan. It's been too long.

I check my F-list everyday, several times a day and yet have a hard time putting anything on here =/ I feel bad.

Alright, so updates since last time:

- Not moving departments at work now, they can’t find anyone to replace me in Mass Channel (surprised? No, not really).

- Went to Orlando for Memorial weekend, that was awesome.

- Had my Dad down very briefly for the Roger Waters Wall Tour concert, that was very awesome.

- About to have Chibi Marrow come down for the weekend as Terri’s daughter’s 1st birthday party is on Sunday. It’s supposed to be triple digits all weekend, starting on Friday. I think I’m going to die.

- Tentatively planning some trips this summer. I should be going home the week of Labor Day in which I’ll help my Mom move down here to live with us until I GTFO of Atlanta. Depending on when and how long I may also make it out to the Four Corners on a motorcycle with my Dad and his friends. I’m hoping that trip gets pushed back to next year as it’s incredibly last minute for me and I’m running out of vacation days.

- My next con is MFF and I’m starting to itch like a damn addict.

So, as of July 1st I'm moving departments again.

I'll go back upstairs to Carter's Wholesale. Why? Because apparently they're going to try and fully 'pilot' Licensing and need a full time technical artist. Up until now the workload has been divvied up between several techs in addition to their normal workload and it's just not working. Licensing is becoming its own beast and really needs its own tech, so Thomas picked me :D Why me? Because I'm awesome! Actually it's because I'm incredibly fast and efficient what I do. I've been doing it for 5 years, I'd like to think I have a good handle on everything by now. I'm currently 'too fast' (Thomas' words) at the piece of Mass Channel I deal with, and he knows I like challenges so I'm looking forward to moving back upstairs.

On top of the Licensing beast I get a piece of Carter's Wholesale again, which will be all of younger playclothes. I lobbied for getting Older Boy's Playclothes back since it would easier for me to 'auto-pilot' if I needed to, but my older designer, Steve, wouldn't have it and wants to keep the guy that replaced me one more season before giving him up, if he has to. I'm only slightly concerned about getting YPC all to myself, I'm used to having just Younger Boy's (and then all of Older Boy'), but now I'm going to have to deal with Girl's which is always getting tweaked and redesigned at the last minute.

My Mom left yesterday morning after visiting for two weeks. It's always nice to have her around :) Back to FWA prep.

I started the patch last Thursday, so far I've felt no change in my thought processes but I realize that could take a few months. I've already got a nice burn/branded looking mark where the last one was so I'm unsure if I'm doing this Maalox thing correctly...

I got my test results back last night and reconfirmed with a phone call this morning. My thyroid levels are normal, and I have high testosterone. Does this surprise me? Yes and no. The shitty thing is because my levels are high I shouldn't be experiencing decreased libido. I can only hope the patch regulates everything for me at this point.

Stupid body. I'd like a new one, please.

In the past month:

- [ profile] chibi_marrow moved out. She went to North Carolina to live with her boyfriend, Teej, and possibly get into a gaming company near Raleigh or some such. I miss her :( We currently do not have another roommate lined up.

- Work got stupid busy, as it does in the month of October and I basically fell off the face of the planet as the type of work I do requires more hours and is soul sucking.

- I moved departments. I no longer work for Boy's playclothes, but now work for Mass channel, which is our Target and Walmart line. Still doing the same job, just with different people. Still trying to adjust down here.

- I participate in Light the Night walk for leukemia and lymphoma through work. I bring Mackinac and every wants their picture with him. Here's a good one Terri got:

I'm excited for MFF! and... I really want a new phone.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Stick me in the ground.

Or, stealing [ profile] chibi_marrow's idea, cremate me, put me in an hour glass and turn me over on my birthday. I think that would require having someone live long after me though, like children, which I do not want. Hmm.
mahrkale: (Ha!)
Alright, so, since I’m not on some form of hormonal contraceptive my face is... less than stellar, not bad just not what I want. Acne is one of the ‘side effects’ to my IUD, it’s really just going from something that’s good for your skin to something that doesn’t help it at all. This summer was particularly less than awesome and my confidence is not always there. I am almost 27 years old, I should not have pimples :| The weather is changing and my face is getting butter but I still wanted something that could help me out that isn’t going to cost an arm and a leg. I was originally looking for stuff(s?) I could snag in a drug store and was ready to do that until I stumbled on They tell you exactly what’s in their products and how you go about finding your own in a drug store. I’m lazy, though, so I ordered a 1-2 month supply to test. You’re supposed to see results in about 2 weeks. At which point I’ll figure out if I want to order more or not.

Anyway, my kit came on Saturday and I started using it yesterday. Here’s to clearer skin!

To anyone saying ‘change your diet!’. I can’t think of anything to change. I don’t eat like crap all the time, very little greasy food or chocolate. I’ll have a pop occasionally but I try to stick to tea/juice/water.
